Chicago Day Trip

We went to Chicago for a day yesterday... Had been quite some time since we last went there, previous plans to go there had been cancelled as YH was too busy... It had snowed during the night and we were greeted by white snow when we left our apartment...
On the drive to Chicago we took a break at our usual stop, about halfway from our place to Chicago... It was snowing when we got down from the car... =)

Some decorations inside the hotel... We like stopping here as it was a hotel so the toilets are nicer! =p

We took a rest in the Starbucks too before continuing on our journey... I am holding on to a cup of hot chocolate...

Our 1st stop was at International Mall at Westmont. We were meeting our friends for lunch at the Food Court inside. It was my 1st visit but YH had been here once before...

We ordered food from 2 Taiwanese stalls and were sitting at the table while waiting for our number to be called...

Food from the 1st stall - some tofu dish with rice and smelly beancurd... I liked the tofu dish! =p

From the 2nd stall we ordered you yu geng (鱿鱼羹) and rice dumpling (肉粽)...

Plus a bubble milk tea drink each! =)

After lunch we did some grocery shopping at the neighbouring Taiwanese Supermart. We bought 6 cans of 米浆, a drink that we drank before in Taiwan and loved it!

Then we drove to Ikea for some shopping... Wonder why can't Ikea have a branch in Indy then we need not travel to Chicago...

After Ikea we drove to Chinatown for more grocery shopping... We first went to buy the huge baos at 万事达饼家... A trip to Chinatown is not complete without a visit to this shop... =p Then we headed over to the mini supermarts to get some stuff. Did not spend much time here as we had a dinner appointment with our friends at a restaurant...

Dinner was at Penang located in Arlington Heights, a suburb of Chicago... There's a branch in Chinatown but it had closed down due to fire a year plus ago...

Us inside the restaurant which was rather nice and looked high-class... =p

The spread we ordered...

Hokkien Mee and Sambal Kangkong...

Fried Kuay Teow and Mee Goreng... I missed Fried Kuay Teow and this one tasted good! =)

The main reason we came to this restaurant - Chilli Crabs! =p

All the dishes tasted good!! Hehe =) Not easy to find authentic Singaporean/Malaysian food here.. Definitely no regrets coming here to eat...

Then we ordered dessert too... Chendol, which we felt was a little bland, and fried banana pieces...

This is peanut pancake topped with coconut ice-cream... Quite nice!

Finally a group photo in the restaurant before we embarked on our journey home...
