Michigan City

We went on a day trip to Michigan City on Saturday. Our first stop in Michigan City was to have breakfast at Bob Evans...
First came our hot tea... Nice to have honey as the sweetener... =)
Then, came our food... YH had "The Homestead Breakfast" while I had "The Rise and Shine". Actually our breakfast differ only by a bowl of sausage gravy. I like the sausage links! =p

Us with our food...

After breakfast, we drove towards downtown. As we were a little too early for the Barker Mansion tour, we went to take a look at the church beside it. This is the First Congregational Church of Michigan City...

After that, we walked over to Barker Mansion. This mansion was completed in 1905 and was for the Barker family. However, the mansion was lived in for only a very short time.

We visited the garden area before the start of the tour. Photos were only allowed to be taken at the garden area and not indoors during the tour. The tour was rather informative as we got to see the mansion and learned more about the Barker family...

View of the building from the garden...

Then, we went to Lighthouse Premium Outlets to do some shopping...
Lighthouse Premium Outlets was quite large and comprised of many brands. However, each shop was quite small compared to Aurora... =p

Despite spending a few hours here, it was rather disappointing for us as we did not find much stuff to buy... =( In fact, we did not buy any clothes at all! Instead, we bought some Bath & Body Works products, footwear and Pyrex bowls... =p
The Pyrex bowls we bought... =p

A pair of Old Navy slippers each to replace those at home...
A pair of shoes for YH...

We passed by Trinity Episcopal Church and stopped to take some pictures as the building was very nice...

Then, we went over to Washington Park. There was some event going on and there were food stalls plus music...

We walked over to the beach area which faces Lake Michigan. It was a windy day and quite cold. Nice sky too with the clouds...

We went up a small hill and this is the view from it...

Video clip showing the beach area. The waves were rather big as it was a windy day...
Despite the huge waves, there were 2 people parasailing...

Us at the beach with the lighthouse in the background...

More pics of the beach...

The lighthouse with the setting sun...

There were lots of seagulls on the beach...

Walking on the boardwalk towards the lighthouse...
Pics taken as we were walking along the boardwalk...

The catwalk leading towards the lighthouse...
View of the beach from the catwalk...

The lighthouse...

Sailboat returning back to the marina...

There was even a guy canoeing in these huge waves! I think he had to keep paddling to stay in the same spot.
The nice beach...
More pics as we watched the sunset from the catwalk near the lighthouse...

The lovely sunset...

The sun disappearing below the horizon...

And we realized we could see some of the buildings in Chicago...
Saw lots of seagulls on the opposite platform as we were walking back to the beach...
Lots of boats at the marina...
More pics of the lighthouse and catwalk at dusk...

Wind was getting strong as even my hood refused to stay down! =p

After that, we drove to Blue Chip Casino to take a look. Besides being a Casino, it also has a hotel, spa, restaurants and other entertainment facilities. The casino area is on a riverboat and has the largest casino boat hull size in the country. We were there for only a short time as we just took a quick walk around...

After that, we went for dinner at McDonald's. We wanted to eat at Popeye's but could not find it. We followed the address given at the website but could not see any Popeye's in sight. Then, wanted to go for KFC but they do not have buffet. In the end, we settled for McDonald's as it was getting late...
I had the Angus Bacon & Cheese Burger while YH had the Premium Crispy Chicken Ranch BLT Sandwich... =)

After dinner, we drove back home, concluding our trip to Michigan City...
