Tour @ Subaru of Indiana Automotive

We went for a tour of the Subaru of Indiana Automotive (SIA) plant in Lafayette this afternoon. No photography was allowed during the tour, and thus no photos.

The engine on display at the waiting area...

The tour lasted about one and a half hour and we got to walk through plant on an elevated catwalk. During the tour, we visited the following areas:
  • Paint Shop - learned about the painting process the vehicles go through in the
  • Stamping Shop - saw the metal part-making process from raw steel to body panels
  • Body Assembly- saw how parts are welded and connected by robots and humans to form the vehicle body
  • Trim & Final - saw the assembly line where other parts are installed
  • Testing - saw the various testing stations the completed car goes through
The tour would be better if the group was smaller as we were at the back of the line and could not see what our guide was talking about. As a result, we only could follow a little of what our guide was saying. Most of the time we just looked at the stuff on our own. =(
