Lin's Wok @ West Lafayette

We went grocery shopping at Pay Less this evening and decided to have dinner outside. We were both hungry and if we were to have dinner at home, time is needed to prepare it. Too hungry to wait... =p YH suggested going to Lin's Wok since it is nearby and I have not tried it before. It was my first visit to a Chinese restaurant in West Lafayette. He wanted me to experience the Chinese food here and then I will appreciate the Chinese food elsewhere. Well, he was right, the food here pales in comparison to the others. Read on for my review on the food...

Taking some photos while waiting for our order to arrive...
Our soup - Wanton in Egg Soup. The soup tasted funny and the wantons had miserable meat filling. It felt like eating the thick wanton skin only. And it cost an extra $1 for the 4 miserable wantons! =( This was a bad choice and even so we had to finish it as we did not want to waste money. Miserable... Will never order this again!!

Our main dishes were Kung Pao Chicken (bottom dish) and Salt & Pepper Pork (top dish). I shall comment on the Kung Pao Chicken first. It was not Kung Pao Chicken! It does not look or taste like it. It was just some stir fry chicken with cashew nuts and celery/carrot/green pepper bits. We do not see any dried chilli. And it tasted funny! We did not like this! Will only rate it slightly better than the soup. The nicest was the Salt & Pepper Pork. Luckily we ordered this! Though it was a little salty, we still liked it. =) The pork was cripsy. This would be a dish which we could order again if we visit this place again.

While eating, we were actually discussing if the cooks were Chinese (Later when paying at the cashier, we could look into the kitchen and saw that the cooks look Chinese - even more weird). Because how can Chinese not know how Kung Pao Chicken looks and taste like. We can cook tastier chicken at home!! =p I just made some wantons earlier the week and it tasted nicer! =p We wondered why the food served is of such standard when the restaurant is opened by Chinese. Is it because the people here like this taste??

The portion of the 2 main dishes were actually rather big. We thought of packing them but in the end we still finished it. Do not want to waste it. Did not pack them because we do not want to have the Kung Pao Chicken for another meal. In addition, we were not sure if the Pork will still be cripsy the next day.

My conclusion for this place is that we have to remember those not nice dishes and not order them again. =p
