Chicago Trip - Day 3

This is the Art Institute of Chicago. We did not visit it this trip but will definitely visit it one day...

We headed over to Millennium Park and it was really crowded! It was a very warm day and there were many people playing with the water...

Photo taking with the Bean...

There was a concert going on at Jay Pritzker Pavilion and we went to listen for a while... As it was really hot I was glad of the rest and shade... =p

The group that performed that day...

A video clip of one of their songs...

Standing under the Jay Pritzker Pavilion, there were people lying on the lawn sunbathing and some were sitting there listening to the concert...

We wanted to walk on the BP Bridge but it was closed... =( Instead we discovered that there was a Puerto Rican Parade... People lining the street to watch the parade. Most were dressed in Puerto Rican colours and are armed with its flag! We joined in watching the parade too... But we did not stay in a fixed spot for the whole time and was walking down the street...

Numerous floats...

Car decorated with Puerto Rico flags... Some had mini flags on their windscreen wipers and the wipers were flipped so it was very cute!!

Police officers on horses...

Exhibit by CTA, it was a mini bus! Very cute!! =p

Photo with one of the parade performer who was stopped along the way by many people requesting for photos...

Interesting costumes...

Little boy in his little car "racing" down the street instead of walking with the rest... But he had to make frequent stops as the party of people in front was not as fast as him... Cute!!

The main stage area...

Buckingham Fountain in Grant Park... It is a very grand fountain with sculptures surrounding it! Very pretty sight!!

Us with the fountain...

Another view of the fountain with buildings as the backdrop...

Then it was a rest at Dunkin Donuts...

The heat from the sun was really unbearable and I am really in need of a rest in shaded area to escape from the sun...

Finally photos of our hotel - Hyatt Regency, our 2nd stay here.... We went back to our hotel for a very short rest to escape from the heat... =p However the rest was only like 15-20 mins...

Nice buildings along Michigan Avenue...

Long jeep on the road... It is a vehicle for some tour...

John Hancock Center...

Jamba Juice!! It is really appropriate for such weather. A cold drink in your hand while you are out walking in the sun really makes one feel better. Do not think I could have survived walking out in the sun without my Jamba Juice... =p It was rather crowded too, unlike the time when we were there in March...

Us taking photo with our Jamba Juice...

Concert at John Hancock Center outside Jamba Juice...

We are at Oak Street Beach just north of John Hancock Center... And it was crowded with people sunbathing and playing around...

The water is cold! Probably that's why not many people are swimming...

Life guard on duty...

Nice view of Chicago's skyline...

Fourth Presbyterian Church, very nice architecture...

It had a very beautiful courtyard... A wedding was to be held at the church later in the day and the couple were taking some photos in the courtyard...

Water Tower Place comprises of a 8 levels shopping mall and a 74 stories skyscraper...

We went into the American Girl Place and it is a doll lover's paradise... American doll is a line of dolls and accessories based on pre-teen girl characters from various periods of American history. And inside are lots of little girls with their parents and some are carrying their dolls... Level 1 are the historical dolls and their book plus various clothes and accessories for them!!

The second level entrance...

At this level you can purchase a Just Like You doll. You get to choose from 39 different dolls a doll that resembles you the most. Each doll has a different combination of face mold, skin tone, eye color, hair color, hair length and hair style... It seems that every little girl's dream is to own one Just Like You doll as there are many either holding on to one or coming here to buy one. You can even dress in the same clothes as your doll!!

Sample dolls doing yoga and kayaking... We are amazed at the numerous accessories you can buy for your doll...

There's even a doll hair salon where you can choose what hairdo you want your doll to have at an additional fee! Incredible!! It is like a real hair salon whereby your doll sits on a chair while getting her hair styled by the hair stylist!

A close up on the salon chair with safety belts to strap your doll to it and a style menu showing the various styles available and the respective price...

Sample dolls with different hair styles and ocutfits..n.

Even more incredible is they have a doll hospital which you can send your doll to if it needs fixing!!

There is also a cafe where you can sit your doll at the table and pretend to have meals together. There will be mini eating utensils setup for your doll...

Saw this bao selling place and we gave it a try... Pretty ex as it cost USD1.40 for a small bao and that is before tax! However they do have interesting fillings...

We tried their Spicy Kung Bao Chicken Bao and Teriyaki Chicken Bao... Other interesting fillings include Thai Curry Chicken and Spicy Mongolian Beef... Taste wise it is rather OK but we think that it is too ex compared to those big and cheap baos we could get at Chicago Chinatown. =p We just tried them for fun...

We also visited the Hershey's store...

They have gigantic stuff in the store!! The world largest Hershey's bar that I carried was rather heavy, it weighs 5lbs!

Then we went Navy Pier...

Squinting our eyes as the sun is too bright... =p

The entrance to Navy Pier... And it was really crowded with people, guess the weather is good plus it is a Sat where there will be fireworks later at night!

Buildings in Navy Pier taken while we walk along the street...

There are also rides in Navy Pier such as Ferris Wheel and Carousel...

Skyline of Chicago seen from Navy Pier...

We visited the exhibition on Stained Glass Windows at Smith Museum in Navy Pier... The stained glass are really pretty!! Here are some of them...

This one is of Michael Jordan... Cool!

We had dinner at Bubba Gump in Navy Pier which is a chain of seafood restaurants inspired by the 1994 movie Forrest Gump... When we arrived at Navy Pier, we went to enquire about the wait time and left our name. The person asked us to come back in about 1 hour and so we did. It was really crowded and we were glad we had left our name at the restaurant when we reached... =p All other restaurants looked crowded too!

These 2 signs are on each table and if the sign is at "RUN FORREST RUN", it means we are fine and if we changed it to "STOP FORREST STOP" it means we have some questions and would like the attention of the waiters... Very innovative concept! =p

Group photo before we started eating...

I had Fish and Chips and YH had Bourbon Mahi Mahi (Charbroiled cajun mahi mahi with bourbon sauce and shrimp served over mashed potatoes). Nice presentation for YH's food! =p They both tasted yummy!! =)

Photo of us at Bubba Gump...

Magicable glasses which can balance! Hehe! It is because the glasses have slits on them so that they are stackable... Great way for a server to carry multiple glasses!!

After dinner we walked around a little and here's a photo of the nicely lighted ferris wheel...

Chicago's lighted skyline from Navy Pier...

Then we had this very ex hot dog!! It costs USD4 and it is just plain hot dog!!

We went to the Beer Garden to wait for the fireworks to start... It was really crowded as there was a concert and many people were there drinking beer and listening to the singing... We could not find seats for 4 people and only managed to find 2 seats so we sort of took turns sitting... =p

The performing band...

Resting at Beer Garden... My feet were aching from walking the whole day...

Fireworks time!! The performing band actually announced that the fireworks display is going to start soon... =)

The fireworks in this video clip are rather cute as they look like different coloured spots in the sky... =p

More photos....

There's smiley face and star shaped fireworks in this video clip! =)

More photos again... We really took lots of fireworks photos...

Another video clip...

Ending of the fireworks display...
It was a very nice and long display of fireworks and we enjoyed watching it!! =) There's fireworks at Navy Pier every Wed and Sat night throughout summer...

After the fireworks display we went to Haagen Dazs for ice-cream and we sat there talking till rather late...

The sundae we shared... It is really nice but not cheap too... =p

Last shot of the ferris wheel as we left Navy Pier... It was already past midnight...

Bought these from a nearby 7-11... The slurpee flavour is nice, think it is mango-passionfruit or something like it... Could not help buying the M&M's to try as we had not seen coconut flavoured ones before... =p
