First we went to Greektown, a historic neighborhood is dominated by Greek restaurants...

We walked around looking at the buildings and shops on both sides of the road...

St. Mary's church, a very nice building and it is the third oldest Catholic parish in the city...

We passed the Hard Rock cafe...

The Michigan Soldiers and Sailors Monument...

For lunch we had Coney Island hot dog, which Detroit is known for... There were 2 Coney Island Restaurants beside each other, American Coney Island and Lafayette Coney Island. We eventually chose American Coney Island as there were more people in the restaurant... =p

Inside the restaurant...

The Coney Island hot dog which comprises of a hot dog topped with chili sauce, mustard and onions served in a bun... Taste OK but a little messy to eat because of the chili sauce... =p

The location of the restaurant was on West Lafayette! Hehe... Can't seem to run away from the name... =p

Then, we walked over to Hart Plaza... The sculpture below is Transcending, a Michigan Labor Legacy Landmark...

Another sculpture, Monolith, at Hart Plaza...

Dodge Fountain, views from different angles...

Skyline of Detroit viewed from Hart Plaza, which looks rather nice...

Next we walked towards the Detroit International Riverfront where you can see Windor, Canada across the Detroit river... It is a rather nice view... =)

A monument, the Gateway to Freedom International Memorial to the Underground Railroad, located at the Riverfront... It commemorates Detroit's pivotal role as a gateway to freedom for thousands of African American people escaping enslavement and finding freedom in Canada...

View of the monument from the other side...

A panoramic view of the Windor, Canada from the Riverfront...
Us at the Riverfront, with Windsor, Canada in the background... =)

Our next stop was the Renaissance Center, a group of seven interconnected skyscrapers... It contains the tallest building in Michigan and is considered a symbol of Detroit... The entire complex is owned by General Motors as its headquarters..

The entrance to General Motors...

Inside the building... You can see the other building from the transparent ceiling... =p

Then we went to the People Mover station in the Renaissance Center for a ride on the People Mover... It only costs 50 cents a ride and is a good way to see the downtown area...

View of downtown from the People Mover...

The ride on the People Mover concluded our short visit to Detroit... After that, we drove to IKEA at Canton for shopping of household items... Its our 1st visit to IKEA in the USA! =)

Me taking photo with some cute kiddie utensils on display... =p

In IKEA after paying for our purchases...

Then we headed to the cafeteria for an early dinner... We had Swedish meatballs and Chicken fingers! Yummy!! Really love the meatballs at IKEA! =)

Me with my plate of meatballs! =p

This is our dessert, Princess cake, which is a Swedish pastry made of sponge cake, raspberry jam, whipped cream and marzipan... Tasted rather nice, never ate anything like it before... =p
