2009 Anniversary Trip - Day 4

We woke up real early on Monday morning, around 5am St. Louis time... That is because YH wanted to be back home around noon time... We had originally thought of returning home only later in the day but this plan could not be materialised... Nevertheless we enjoyed our St. Louis trip and besides visiting the attractions also ate lots of stuff... =p The Botanical Gardens was something on our list but we did not have time to visit it as we squeezed in a trip to the Cahokia Mounds on Sat...

As for food, we did not manage to try 2 local St. Louis food... They are Gooey butter Cake and Red Hot Riplets (a super-spicy variety of potato chips made by local firm Old Vienna with St. Louis-style barbecue sauce)... =( We went to a Gooey Butter Cake shop on Sunday but it was closed and we were leaving too early on Monday to visit it... Plus we could not find any bakery shop to visit to check if they sell Gooey Butter Cake so no chance to try it... We tried looking for the potato chips at Target and Walgreens but could not find it... Similarly we did not see any local grocery shop to try our luck...

We wanted to try The Wok near UIUC on our way back but it was closed... Hence we decided to give Hen House a try since it was just nearby... We saw many cars parked in the carpark outside and concluded that the food there should not be bad... =p

It turned out to be a classic American restaurant...

Our ice water and hot tea... Cute bottles contained the hot water for you to pour into your cup...

YH had the country boy breakfast which had 2 eggs, bacon, patties, hash brown and biscuit with some gravy... Nice!

I had the Harvester Breakfast which had 2 eggs, patties, hash brown and pancakes with maple syrup... The pancakes are nice!

We ordered breakfast as it was only 9 plus in the morning though the restaurant serves lunch and dinner food throughout...

This meal concludes our short getaway trip to celebrate our anniversary as we drove straight home after eating...
