Trip to Chicago on 1.1.11

We spent the first day of 2011 in Chicago and our first stop was to have lunch at Chinatown. As usual, we went to one of our favorite places. =p The restaurant was not really crowded but the queue for carry out was rather long and people kept coming in to carry out food.
The soup which looked a little black that day...
Hubby's favorite item but he made one change that day and had roasted pork instead of roasted duck.
I had wanton noodles with char siew! =)

Both of us happily wanting to eat our food.

After lunch was shopping for the usual stuff at Chinatown before leaving. Next, we went to Oz Park. This park was named Oz Park in honor of Lyman Frank Baum, the author of The Wizard of Oz, as he stayed near the park. At the park are sculptures of characters from the story. The park was at a residential area and it was not easy to find street parking but we managed to find one after circling it for some time. The first sculpture we saw was Dorothy.

The Scarecrow
The Tin Man

The Lion
The park itself which was not very big. It was freezing while we were there due to the wind and we did not walk around much. We only went to find the sculptures to take a look at them.

After Oz Park, we went grocery shopping at H-Mart. Then, we had Korean BBQ for dinner.
Us at our table thinking of what to order.

The hot charcoal for us to bbq our meat later.
Veggies to pair with the bbq meat.

The meat we ordered.

A huge variety of small sides. There were so many of them that it filled our table!
Meat cooking on the grill. Yummy!

The soup that arrived late.
It was a very fulfilling meal that is perfect for the cold day. We have been wanting to come here again for ages and finally did so. =)

After dinner, we went to explore another Asian Mart at Chicago uptown area.
This Asian Mart was quite big and spacious and carry many products from South East Asia. Guess we have now one more place to do grocery shopping when we visit Chicago. =p There were 3 full aisles of snacks there and we were really tempted to get some of them!

Familiar looking treats.

Everything was neatly organised and there was ample space to move around. Definitely better than the shops in Chinatown.
We even found kaya in a can.
This is me with the drinks that I grew up drinking. I forgot to grab the Ribena bottle as well! =p

Some Korean alcohol we bought from H-Mart. We thought they looked interesting and wanted to try them!
Snacks from Tai Nam which we could not resist buying. =p
